Clairaudience
clairaudience is the ambient guitar alias of Mike Sheffield (Isn’t Ours, Lightcyan, Heaven’s Gate, Alan Watts). Letters From Emptiness was recorded between 2022 and 2025 in Queens, NY (with additional recording in Barcelona, ES). This album was composed by Mike Sheffield, mixed by Mike Sheffield and Jeremy Krinsley in Bushwick, NY, and mastered by Stephan Mathieu in Bonn, Germany. It features vocals by Jessica Papitto (PC Worship, Heaven’s Gate) and Lani Combier-Kapel (Weeping Icon), as well as electronics by Kiran Aurora (Seepage, Shot Dog) Born from a place of grief, this collection of tracks—ranging in genre while being firmly planted in shoegaze, drone, downtempo, and ambient—was inspired by a random folder found on a computer hard drive when gathering remembrances after the sudden loss of a friend. Years in the making, the project found its own rhythm and life, with this record culminating in a full live band to perform the tracks. The live band consists of Mike Sheffield, Jessica Papitto, Healani Combier-Kapel, Alex Cvetovich, and Carly Salas. Some influences include My Bloody Valentine, A.R. Kane, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, and Suso Sáiz, as well as Stan Brakhage, Toshiko Takaezu, and Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (from whom the title of the record is borrowed).
